I had just seen a whole bunch of these shirts at Winners, so who knows;
maybe our thrifty fearless leader enjoys discount shopping too? (Photo Credit: bellarue)
The day was supposed to start at 9:30 with the red carpet arrivals. My friend and I hung around by the front for a bit and talked to some of the handlers that were working there. We were told that the stars wouldn't be doing the red carpet thing and that they would be using the side entrance so off we went. We hung out at the side of the building for a bit, and we were SO surprised to see only TWO other people there waiting, but it worked out to our advantage!
Anyway, we were there until about 10:30 when we heard a lady on a walkie-talkie saying that the American talent was arriving in 4 minutes. It was so funny because all four of us females automatically started flipping our hair and smoothing it down! Not even 30 seconds later, three limousines pulled up. There was a long black one that you couldn't see inside, a white sedan-ish car with clear windows, and a black version of the same car right behind it. We were thinking that Went was going to come out of the big black one, but nope! Went came out of the white one, and Robert came out of the black one about a minute after. He stepped out of the car wearing a suit! I couldn't believe it! I was thinking someone must've been feeling underdressed at the New York Upfront last week, showing up in wrinkled khakis. As much as I love that he is who he is and is very comfortable with it, it was still nice to see him a little more formal today. And YES, he was smoking hot!!! I cannot stress enough how beautiful he really is.
As he came out of the car, the two other girls that had been waiting with us asked for a pic with him, and he obliged although you could tell he was rushed. There were lots of network people trying to pull him inside, but he still signed a few autographs and stopped for a few pics before being led in.
When he passed by us, my friend called out his name and asked for a pic. He said sorry, he had to go right now, but that he would on his way out. While he was saying this he stuck his right hand up in the air (like he was holding a fake gun, with only his index finger and thumb extended) and wiggled his index finger in a circular motion, indicating to her. I looked at my friend and told her that "she just got fingered by Went!" OMG, we were in freakin' hysterics! (You know writing that now, it doesn't seem as funny as it was at the time, but we had just been "Wented" and I guess we were on some kind of high!)
I really noticed though how Went strained to take as much time as he could for us; it was really nice. You could almost feel how he didn't want anyone to be disappointed.
At around 11:20 or so, we saw Went's driver come out and open the trunk. Right away I was like, OMG, look in there, check to see if the suitcase is there! I NEED to see this damn suitcase for myself! Well lo and behold, he actually pulled it out, and there it was in all its glory right before me! Is this sad or what? My friend and I both looked at each other and squealed: "the suitcase!" We didn't even squeal when we saw Went. As the driver was wheeling it by us, I took a nice pic of it, observed it, and was able to determine, without a doubt, that it was duct/painter's tape! It was even peeling up in certain spots. The rush of affection I felt for this unpretentious man almost knocked me over. Ah, the things a black suitcase with a bright blue stripe, can do to a woman!

At this point, we figured he was getting changed and getting ready to leave so we readied up are cameras again. About 15 minutes later, one of the handlers signaled his driver to bring his car closer to the door entrance. The door opened and there was Went and the suitcase! This time, he was in his GAP khakis, his New Balance runners, and a green John Deere T-shirt. He had two handlers with him, and they were both very emphatic that he had no time for pics as he had to catch his flight. Well, God bless her, my friend steps up closer to him and calls out in a plaintive wail, "but Wentworth, you promised!"
He stopped, turned around, lifted up his hand and did the finger thing again (yes, my friend was fingered TWICE by The Pretty). He motioned for her to come over for her pic. How freakin' awesome is he? He remembered his promise to take a picture with her after he was done! He is a man of his word. So she got her photo with him and she actually put her hand on his belly while he had his arm around her! Then right after about nine other people that had gathered around asked for a pic too. You really can tell how he respects his fans because his assistants kept saying "last one," and someone else would ask for a pic, and he would say, "ok, one more." It got to be so funny after awhile that he started to laugh too! He didn't get in his car until everyone had their pic and autograph requests fulfilled, despite his handlers' protestations. When he was done, he said, "thank you" and did a little wave and was off in the white sedan.
We hung around and chatted with the few other people that were there. Everyone was so nice and so respectful of him, it was really a great experience. As I said before, Went was very gracious, kind, and professional. It was truly a Wentastic day!
